A WINNING HAND

2026 Autumn-Winter Collection

SHANGHAI TANG presents Chapter One of its Autumn-Winter 2026 collection, “A Winning Hand”.

Chapter One, "The Opening Hand," begins at the very moment a card game opens. The game has yet to unfold, but the clues are already hidden in the details. Coin motifs, symbols of longevity, traditional card patterns, and jade toggle fasteners, translate auspicious symbolism into the structure, texture and craft detail of each garment.

Soft Gold, silk jacquard and silk-cotton fabrics open this season’s first chapter, unveiling SHANGHAI TANG’s expression of a new modern wardrobe, evocative of an aesthetic, irreverent with symbolism, cut for a body that moves.

Here, symbols are not decoration. They are woven into the fabric, the structure, the fastenings themselves, codes to be read, or simply felt, beneath a clean silhouette.

A winning hand has never simply been about what you are dealt. It has always been about skill, luck, and not letting anyone see you count the cards.

An Unhurried Opening: CLOUD SHADOW

Rooted in over 500 years of heritage, Soft Gold is mulberry silk crafted through an ancient alchemy of yam-root juice, river mud, sun, and air. This natural process yields a unique, fluid sheen with an ink-black face and tobacco-brown reverse—making every piece entirely one-of-a-kind. SHANGHAI TANG reimagines this rare, unhurried material for AW26, bringing crisp yet supple structure to modern Tang Jackets, tops, and dresses with clean, contemporary silhouettes.

Womenswear unfolds through a fluid and contemporary take on Qipao-influenced tops, dresses, shirts and skirts. Stand collars, diagonal front closures, and cinched lines preserve a clear, traditional structural silhouette, while navy, soft pink, beige, soft gold and purple bring joyful, crisp layers to the season. Coin motifs and traditional card patterns emerge subtly across the garments, accented with jade toggles, silk piping and hand-sewn beading, allowing auspicious symbolism to enter everyday attire.

Menswear reworks the classic British and European style tailoring that SHANGHAI TANG is known for in a more relaxed way. Coin and longevity motifs are translated into prints and textured jacquard across T-shirts, polos and shirts, while asymmetric knotted closures yield a simplified Tang Jacket with more modern proportions. Traditional symbols are freed from any single occasion.

"The Opening Hand" unveils the core element of SHANGHAI TANG’s aesthetic and approach, that culture is not merely something to be observed, but something that can be woven, cut, and worn. The nature of Soft Gold, the hidden textures of silk jacquard, the structural ingenuity of knotted closures, the elegance of jade toggles: each slowly reveals an answer, a rhythm, an expression of each person’s own measure, in every choice.

The Opening Hand is dealt.
