OUR STORY
The story of SHANGHAI TANG begins thirty years ago, with a melange of evocative contrasts, calling to mind Chinese culture, Eastern exoticism, old money, authenticity, mood, and moments in time - putting on a Tang jacket, wearing a Fortune necklace, or smelling our Ginger Flower scent.
Over the three decades since our founding, the essence of SHANGHAI TANG has infused luxury fashion and lifestyle with this unique aesthetic, and the joie de vivre that our founder, David Tang KBE, celebrated with artists, celebrities, and royals to make life a party.
The stars of our story are the men and women who love SHANGHAI TANG and aspire to our the richness of lifestyle, authenticity of our cultural influences, and alluring charm layered with humour, irreverence, and good taste.

Our Story
OUR AESTHETIC
The SHANGHAI TANG aesthetic evokes memories and passion, capturing modern romanticism with culture-stained streets, neon lights, lush interiors, and desirable experiences, all layered in timeless luxury, vivid memories, irreverence, and the poetry of fleeting moments. It is a visually rich blend of saturated colours, intimate gatherings, dynamic movement, emotional depth, humour, and irony.
SHANGHAI TANG’s aesthetic is joyful, modern, and evocative with playful irreverence and Eastern elegance, infused with cultural overtones spanning millennia and exquisite craftsmanship honed for generations.
Core to our aesthetic is cultural authenticity - the European interpretation of Eastern influences, the Shanghai-inspired art deco and chinoiserie of the 1930s, influences from contemporary art, and the designs of our stores and hospitality, all infused with cultural overtones spanning millennia and exquisite craftsmanship honed for generations.
