Until recently, Polo had not been played in Mongolia since Genghis Khan had trained his warrior cavalry in the exhilarating sport during the 13th Century. Its revival began in July 1998, when the first modern game of Polo in Mongolia was played by a group of visiting international players on the invitation of Christopher Giercke, the German filmmaker who now manages the Genghis Khan Polo Club.
